FAQ
A short guide to how everything works. If your answer is not here, write to us via «Report a problem» in your account.
What costs money and what does not?
Free — the whole app: recipes, the pantry, shopping lists, the weekly plan, groups, the barcode scanner, calories; recipes by hand are unlimited. Plus 3 new recipes a week — from links, videos, photos or a description.
Premium — more actions and the things that work for you: recipe adaptation, receipt scanning, a ready-made weekly menu, calorie estimates from a photo and the nutritionist. Each such action costs us money every time, so it is paid.
Premium also covers printing and saving recipes as PDF: one recipe, a collection or your whole cookbook as a ready-made layout.
What does premium cost?
There is monthly and yearly billing, and the year costs less. Current prices are always on the plan page in your account.
You pay wherever you came from: through Google Play in the Play app, through the App Store in the iOS app, by card on the website. The subscription renews itself, and you can cancel any time — access runs to the end of the period you paid for.
What is Family Premium?
One plan per group: several people in the same group get the premium features, and the group owner pays.
The Family action limit is shared and three times larger than Personal Premium. Shared means every member draws from one pool, not that each gets that much individually.
If the group has more people than the plan has seats, it covers whoever joined earlier. That does not block joining — a group works without a plan.
Is there a trial?
In the app from Google Play or the App Store the yearly plans come with a free week: the store only starts charging on the eighth day, and you can cancel before that. On the website there is no trial — there the payment is taken by us, not by a store.
But you don't need it: without premium you get 3 new recipes a week — from links, videos, photos or a description — and you can add recipes by hand as much as you like. It is not a day you have to beat — it is something you can keep using.
Premium gives more actions and opens the rest: receipt scanning, a ready-made weekly menu, recipe adaptation, calorie estimates, the nutritionist. Longer free access is only by promo code.
Why aren't all actions free?
Every action — an import, an adaptation, a reply from the nutritionist — is paid for by us each time. Fully free actions for everyone would mean either ads or selling data, and we do neither. So the free part is limited, not switched off.
How many recipes can I add without premium?
3 new recipes a week — from a link, a video, a photo or a description (from words, from filters or from what you have at home). The allowance resets every Monday.
Every such recipe counts the same — whether from a screenshot, a video or a page; dictating a shopping list counts as one too. A failed attempt doesn't count.
Recipes by hand and editing are unlimited — they never count.
How many actions can I do?
With premium it's one shared pool of actions a month — and you decide what to spend it on. Calls cost differently because they cost us differently: importing from a video or a page, a calorie estimate and a reply from the nutritionist are the cheapest; generating from a description and scanning a receipt cost more; reading a screenshot, ingredient swaps and the weekly menu cost the most. Voice in the kitchen is the cheapest of all: a few questions make one action.
In any one week you can only spend part of that pool — so it lasts the whole month rather than the first weekend. What you do not spend in a week is not lost from the month: the cap opens again next week, and the monthly pool stays the same.
On Family Premium the pool is larger and shared by the whole family: everyone spends from one pool rather than getting the same amount each. How much is left is shown in your account and on the new-recipe page, not only once an action is already unavailable.
Why does it sometimes say «try later»?
The request limit for the model is used up. We switch to a neighbouring model automatically when one hits its quota, but if they are all spent, waiting is all that is left.
A failed attempt that is not your fault does not burn your limit: only successful answers are counted.
What to do when the action reserve runs out?
There are two ways out, and the second one is new. The first is to wait: the limit renews on its own, and the app tells you from which day.
The second is Premium: a much larger monthly pool, plus the rest (receipt scanning, the weekly menu, recipe personalization, calorie estimates, the nutritionist).
And if a subscription isn't what you want right now, you can buy a reserve of actions once: 30 actions in a single payment, no subscription. They never expire and are used only after your regular limit runs out — so what's already yours is always spent first.
You can buy the reserve on the «Premium» page in your account, or straight from the «limit reached» message.
What of my data do import and the nutritionist see?
Only what you send yourself in that action: text, a photo or a description. Plus, for the nutritionist and the weekly menu — your nutrition profile, and only if you haven't turned that off in privacy settings.
Your text goes to the model as DATA, not as instructions: commands hidden inside pasted text are ignored on purpose.
Can parsing or generation get things wrong?
It does. A recognised or generated recipe always opens as a draft for you to review — we publish nothing on your behalf. Calories and macros are an estimate, not a measurement.
Is the app's “Nutritionist” a person or an automated assistant?
Both, and they are different things. A HUMAN nutritionist is a real person you grant access to your nutrition data so they can plan your menu. That is FREE, both for you and for the nutritionist.
The automated nutritionist is a chat with a model that remembers your context. It's in premium because every reply is a paid call.
How do I add a recipe?
By hand, from a link to a recipe page, from pasted text, from a screenshot or from a video. Smakora reads text, screenshots and video itself: 3 new recipes a week for free, more with premium. By hand — unlimited. The result opens for review — check it before saving.
Who can see my recipes?
You choose when saving: public is visible to everyone, private only to you, group to the members of that group. A draft is visible to nobody but you.
You can also create a «share» link — it opens the recipe for whoever holds the link without making it public.
What happens to the photos if I delete a recipe?
A photo nothing points at any more is removed from storage automatically within a week. If a copy of the recipe still looks at that same photo, it stays.
Why was my photo not uploaded?
Photos go through an automatic check for unacceptable content. If the check rejects an image it is not stored; repeated violations block uploads until a review.
Where do the calories come from?
From the ingredient reference: a world database plus our own entries. What we could not find, we say so — «counted 7 of 12 ingredients» — instead of pretending the figure is complete.
What does the «Refined estimate» badge mean?
That this recipe's calories and macros were worked out with cooking taken into account, rather than simply summed from raw ingredients.
The difference can reach a quarter: baking and stewing drive off water, so the finished dish weighs less than the sum of its products; frying adds absorbed oil; fermentation eats part of the sugars. The reason for each adjustment is shown next to the numbers.
If you edit the recipe the badge disappears — the figures no longer describe the new version, and the plain sum is shown until the next recalculation.
Can I rely on this for my diet?
No. The app is not a medical service and every figure is for reference only. With allergies, always check the composition on the packaging.
What is the stock for?
It knows what you already have at home. You can filter the feed by «I can cook this», and drop from the shopping list what is sitting in the cupboard anyway.
How many shopping lists can I have?
Five on a free account and fifty on premium. That is about NAMED lists — everyone has one main list and it does not count.
Does the barcode scanner work with Ukrainian products?
Yes. Besides the world database we ask Ukrainian shops, because local products are exactly what the world database often does not know.
What does receipt scanning do?
You photograph the receipt, we pull the list of bought items from it, and you tick the ones you need — they go into the pantry or shopping list.
The receipt photo itself is NOT stored: a receipt carries the time, the shop and part of your card details, and there is no reason for that to sit with us.
What is shared in a group?
Recipes, stock, the shopping list and the menu — each is switched on separately when the group is created and can be changed later. Whatever is off stays personal.
How do I invite someone?
With an invite link from the group. It expires, and each person can use it once.
Do you show ads or sell data?
No and no. That is exactly why some actions are paid — the app has to live on something.
Can I take my data or delete my account?
Yes. Your account has an export of all your data in one file and account deletion — both without writing to support. Deletion is confirmed with a code sent to your email.
What do you keep about sign-ins?
Sign-in history — time, device and country — for no more than 90 days. Older records are removed automatically: the cheapest way not to leak data is not to have it.
Language, theme, degrees
Ukrainian and English, light and dark themes, °C and °F — all of it switches in the settings and follows your device by default.
Does the app work on a phone?
Yes — it is a web app that installs to your home screen and behaves like a normal one. There is a separate Android build as well.
